Nursing

Holy Cross Hospital maintains a healthy working environment where nurses can provide the level of person-centered care that they would want for their own loved ones.

We recognize that each life is sacred and treat all patients with dignity and respect for the whole person – in mind, body and spirit. We also have the autonomy to make real-time decisions that are consistent with our mission, always doing what is right for the patient as an individual.

Join us at Holy Cross Hospital if you want to be fully engaged in patient care, increase your knowledge, reach your goals, and be proud of where you work.

Nursing Culture

The nursing organization upholds an open culture where input and dialogue are encouraged. Our shared governance model gives Holy Cross nurses the forum to communicate new ideas for how we can work together.

Leadership truly appreciates the work of our nursing teams. Nurses here are recognized and rewarded at all levels of the organization, from PCT to senior leader. Don’t be surprised to see our CNO out on the floor. She has been a nurse here for more than 20 years and is a strong advocate for the nursing practice as a whole.

As the first Magnet™ hospital in the area, we adhere to some extremely high standards. Holy Cross nurses have what they need to provide the finest patient experience possible. We can feel comfortable and confident in our ability to make a difference every day.

Nursing Attributes

Whether you are a PCT, an experienced RN or a nursing leader, you will find that nurses at Holy Cross Hospital have a lot in common. We are:

  • Compassionate and empathetic
  • Confident, critical thinkers who are eager to learn and grow
  • Patient, family and community advocates
  • Respectful of the whole person – in body, mind and spirit
  • Well-rounded and accountable team players
  • Able to recognize stressors and look for solutions

Nurse Residency Program

The Nurse Residency Program has been designed to offer a well-rounded experience, while easing the graduate nurse’s transition into the practice environment. The program is offered three times a year and includes four-hour monthly educational seminars, which include open discussion of professional experiences and case studies.

During orientation, nurse residents work one-on-one with a carefully selected preceptor while also handling a reduced patient load. This allows the resident to receive individualized training with additional time to work closely with their preceptor. Residents are also assigned to a facilitator who acts as a resource and advisor throughout the year-long program.

The goal of the Nurse Residency Program is to help new nurses develop comfort in the role of an RN, apply theoretical concepts at the bedside, improve critical thinking skills, and strengthen their commitment to nursing as a career choice. We invite you to join us if you are ready to accelerate your career by strengthening your abilities to organize, prioritize and lead.

To qualify, you must be new graduate of an accredited Florida BSN program with no previous acute care work experience, a minimum GPA of 3.5, and a Florida RN license. Eligible candidates must also commit to working at Holy Cross Hospital for two years (one year after program completion).
